Review: NYX Cream Blush & Lip Pencils

I recently got interested in trying out NYX Jumbo Lip Pencils and Cream Blush, so I ordered from Crush Cosmetics (a makeup online store based in Australia, sourced internationally, they stock ELF, NYX, Barry M, Seche Vite, China Glaze, Milani, Urban Decay Primer Potion and such). I've been meaning to get more Lip Pencils cause they are so handy, it's pretty much 2 in 1, liner and lipstick =)

And I am impressed!!!

Jumbo Lip Pencil (JLP) in:
721 Fuschia
711 Iced Coffee

Cream Blush in
02 Natural
Price: AUD$10.95

Here's a quick swatch on the back of my hand...
From left: JLP Fuchsia, JLP Iced Coffee, Cream Blush Natural

Wow the Jumbo Lip Pencils look so dark in here! One thing for sure about these NYX products - CREAMY!! They are SO CREAMY!! Application is such an ease! =) No tugging, no scratching, no breaking pencils trying to get products out. I don't think they're too creamy, but creamy. teeheehee...

Fuchsia is actually a creamy mauve colour, so they probably should have changed the name to Mauve instead of Fuchsia. Or Creme d'Mauve.
I think you'd agree that the word 'fuchsia' would be more likely to be related to bright, hot magenta pink! But this is mauve! For the pigmented lip-ed ladies, this would be a nice natural everyday lip colour and for more nude lips, this would be a natural day to night colour, I'd say. It's sort of a blend of nude and mauve.

Iced Coffee is a nude brown but not those nude that people start wondering if you're sick or going to throw up kind of nude. It's a dark nude? This colour is also good if you already have colours on your eyes and cheeks and don't want your lips to be looking like strawberry donuts ... they 're good to eat, not on the face.

Oh Butter!! That's the word I was after. They feel like butter sorta. Not margarine, not oil, not sorbolene, or petroleum jelly, but butter. I don't even need to use lip gloss with this because it's not matte, it has a sheen to it.

Cream Blush in Natural is gorgeous light baby pink I've been looking for, I think. It is purely just pink. No funny chunky glitters stuck in it, or green tint to it ... or blue purple yellow whatever other colours you want to blend it with. It does look like it has a spray of peachyness to it but it's not overpowering. Lovely colour, can be blended for sheerer look or applied more heavily for night or more dramatic look.

It applies like a soft butter spread... and the colour pigmentation is just great and using synthetic brush, I could just dab a little spread of this on my cheeks and blend and WAH-LAH!!

See what I mean by butter-like?
I don't know if you could imagine it from this picture LOL!

Verdict: Me Likey!!!

Do you?

To The Beach Nail Lacquer in In the Buff

ost of you, if not, all of you would have heard or seen this by now. It was out in the US of A last month, and it was just out in Australia yesterday.

It is described as: Muted taupe avocado.
I'd say: It's olive sort of colour =) Very different, I've never had any other colour like this before!

Texture: Creamy (hence the name); shine (unlike matte)

Verdict: 4.5/5 I really like it!! (Apart from the fact it costs $22!!!! Here in Australia!!! But what a colour... nothing like it! So unique! So creamy and taupe-y and olive-y hehehe)

I'm impressed. Great application
, easy to apply, streakless, smooth, 1.5 coats would be perfect, even just 1 coat is enough, but I did about 1.5-2 coats... as I wanted the colour to stand out more.

Price? AUD$22.00 (10ml / 0.34 US FL OZ)

with Seche Vite on top~
makes my entire nails so glass-like!! So glassy, like glass... smoothhhh

For those in Australia, you can get Seche Vite from crushcosmetics.com.au for only AUD$12.95

Have you checked out this nail polish? Like it or not in your colour range? What about the other one, Scorcher, the bright coral red nail polish? Like it or hate it, do leave a comment~ ^^

PS: Psssttt.. this is my first MAC nail polish

Lush Makeup??

Oh Lush!!

When you hear people mention Lush, you'd imagine bath bombs and smelly bar soaps that look like cakes, yes? As I ventured into the world of handmade soaps and handmade face cleansers and moisturisers, never have I associate Lush with anything makeup-base such as concealers or foundation and such. Well, it may not be something as dramatic as eyeshadows or nail polishes, but Colour Supplements (that's what they're called) would go under, I'd say, Tinted Moisturiser or if not, foundation.

In the new June 2010 Lush Times, it says:

"Perfect for giving you an even, flawless look to your skin; these little beauties will cover up the odd blemish, tone down any redness, and give you beautiful glowing skin. They can be used by themselves as a normal foundation for more concentrated coverage, or they can be mixed with our beautiful range of moisturisers to give a lighter, more dewy, complexion. Made with Red Rose Petal Infusion to calm redness and Glycerine to help your skin absorb moisture, these Supplements do lovely things to your skin, as well as making it look good."

It then continues on to How To Use section:

"If you want to use them as a tinted moisturiser but wake up one morning with a blemish, then dab a little of the colour supplement, neat, onto the offensive little spot. See, it doubles up as a Concealer too!"

Oh yeah? Really!? A Concealer as well, eh? Now this is getting interesting... if it does interest you too, read on...

They come in 4 colours:

Dark Yellow
Dark Yellow is our natural rose petal base with a darker shade for olive or yellow skins. It's made with rice bran and soya oils, rather than mineral oils, to care for all skin types. Just mix into your favourite moisturiser for a natural tint or use on its own as a foundation. You can also dot a little around unsightly blemishes for effective coverage.

Light Yellow

Light Yellow is the same beautiful base, but with a pale shade for ivory skin. If you have a porcelain complexion, Light Yellow is the one for you. The blend of soya and rice bran oils is light and does not negatively affect the skin like mineral oils would. Just mix into your favourite moisturiser for a natural tint or use on its own as a foundation. You can also dot a little around unsightly blemishes for effective coverage.

Dark Pink
Dark Pink is our darkest colour for people with a healthy glow or pink skin. (from lush australia website)

Light Pink
Light Pink is one of our lightest supplements. It can be blended with any of the others to create the right tint for you. This one is suited to people with pale or pink complexions.

The ingredients are pretty much alike, with Fresh Rose Petal Infusion, Soya Oil, Titanium Dioxide, Rice Bran Oil, Stearic Acid, Talc, Glycerine, Triethanolamine, Cetearyl Alcohol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, and Colours.

They come in a 20g jar, and costs AUD$17.95

Like it? Love it? Leave it? Have you tested it? What do you think?

LUSH & Priceline Haul

I haven't done a haul in a while... I've been on quite a ban. However, I did purchase some products over the past month or so, and I realise I haven't shared ... Well, I did a bit of a little haul today too... I was feeling really... horrible. A customer pretty much lashed out at me due to some "customer special order" issues and delivery times, how she's not happy with the customer service she's received, and wanted to speak to the head manager or my manager... while I was like the "bridge" between the information and her. Ah!! Let me
not get into it.

Let's just get back to the haul...
Firstly, it's from Lush. They had a
VIP Night "Lush in the City" on the 2nd June in Queens St, Brisbane City. I went. I ended up going home with a bagful of Lush goodies ^^ freebies too! Let me show you...

- Black Pearl Shower Gel (Limited Edition) ~ quickly, this actually smells quite manly, it's sort of like a guy's cologne sort of scent. REfr - Ultimate Shine Solid Shampoo ~ wanted to try it ever since I started using solid shampoo - Karma Komba Solid Shampoo ~ I ran out of my little sample version of this - Ultrabland ~ Makeup Remover (big tub; 100g) ~ I ran out of my smaller tub, it's my current HG Face Makeup Remover, I still use separate remover for my eyes

And and and and, guess what!! The rest were actually free FREE FREE!! Gratis!!
The silver tin for the solid shampoo is free, because I purchased 2. The Oatifix Fresh Mask is free because for any purchase of minimum $50, get a fresh mask for free. Then because I rsvp for the VIP night I received a goodies bag, as you can see those 3 little samples (Sugar Scrub, I Should Coco Soap ~ discontinuing, Vanilla Dee Lite Body Lotion). And and and and and... I also got this giant goodie... (which I doubt I'll use... who knows? But in the meantime, it's just sitting there, scent-ing my bathroom hahaha)

Vanilla Mountain Ballistic
~ a massive mound of vanilla and fizz

Oh the lipgloss/liquid lipstick at the bottom there is from Guerlain. It's a beautiful velvety, matte, Terracotta liquid lipstick. In colour 01.

I popped by Priceline today, I was sort of looking for an alternative to my Lush Eau Roma Water Toner, since mine is running out. So I was walking around in there, and my eyes fell on to Maybelline corner. =.=" My eyes stopped at the Superstay 24Hr Makeup section and saw that they were $3 Off, my hand grabbed a tester (in Nude) and I started testing it on my chest and my cheek. I couldn't tell I had it on! Waahhh what!? I raced back and picked a bottle. I then glanced over to the concealer section, was choosing between the Mineral Liquid Concealer, the Dream Mousse Concealer, and the Superstay 24Hr Concealer. None of them had testers except the Superstay, so I grabbed that too, in the shade Cream, not the lightest Ivory, and not the darker one which I forgot the name of. Hahaha... yeah, it sure has been quite some time since I purchased a drugstore foundation, but hey, the concealer only ended up costing AUD$11.95, and the foundation AUD$18.95.

Haul from today
(The Neutrogena Deep Clean Invigorating Ultra-Foam Cleanser was FREE)

I moved on to skincare section with different sorts of skincare brands, and since I've always wanted to try this toner,
I picked it instead of Natural Instinct Toner, but now I wish I had picked up NI Toner instead.

Dear Mr Dickinson,
I am truly and in my honest opinion, ever so sorry to have to complain to you regarding your best product.
I wish it could be my ultimate Holy Grail toner...

T. N. Dickinson's All Natural Witch Hazel Gentle Toner STINKS!!!!

I MEAN IT!! It smells so unbearable... I have not the slightest idea what smell it is, but oh my goodness, does it have to smell that bad? It reeks like ... I don't know... an off vodka? or tequila mixed with vodka and vomit? It's disgusting. I can't stand it... ='( This could've been a really good toner, except for the disgusting SMELL!!!!! Nooooo...... shall I start wearing a mask or hold my breath every time I apply my toner... ah so sad...

Oh, and I also picked up a 'gentle cleanser' for my temperamental face. At first I thought I'd give Cetaphil a try, but I saw this deal in Neutrogena and since I do like Neutrogena in general (I use their 2 in 1 Cleanser in Spring & Summer) I thought I gave it a try. The Ultra-Foam Cleanser was free!! For every purchase of Neutrogena skincare worth AUD$10 or more.

The days are getting colder, the wind blows upon my face turning my skin cells to raisins. It's winter.
I think once I've worked out my new Winter skincare routine, I shall make a post about it. In the meantime, I'm still trying to work out what works... Gentle Cleanser, more hydrating moisturiser, sunscreen is still a must, I've started using softener (Japanese brand), Lush Aqua Marina, and yeah, I'll get back to you on the skincare routine update.

By the way, IMATS Sydney is held on September 18th-19th this year... at Sydney Convention Hall, Darling Harbour. I have not purchased my tickets yet but I'm set on going for the first time!! ^^ So excited!! Any of you ever attended IMATS anywhere else or in Sydney?? What do you think of it??
I'm eyeing brands such as Yaby, Crown and Royal Brushes, Gorgeous Cosmetics, Make Up For Ever, Tas Merah, Face Atelier, Smashbox, and I'm wondering if MAC Pro stuff will be there, Mac Pro is one of the sponsors after all!! I'm also curious as to how much sales are going to be on... and what the classes are going to be like. They have not updated their website on this for this year. =(

Alright, I should be off to bed. What am I doing this late at night... It's almost 3.30 in the morning and I'm up awake writing my blog!??!?! Dreamland is calling oohooohoooo... I shall try the Maybelline foundation later and see how it holds! I hope it doesn't fail me =.="

*A new collection to my gel eyeliner collection ~ Limited Edition ~
I'll leave you to it... thinking that it's just a plain old boring black. Oh how wrong a first impression could be teeheehee

A Piece of Me in the month of June 2010

OMG I'm so sorrryyy!! I'm so overdue!!!! >.<"

This month....

I like: that the weather is cool and chilled, with a hint of sunshine, it's the beginning of winter where I live at the moment

I don't like: that my head is too wide and too many sunglasses or frames just don't fit me or look weird on me, or hurts my temples and cause me headache in the end.

I want you to know: that it takes time to learn, it takes more time to know oneself

I've planned: to... polish my makeup skill, especially in terms of foundation complexion application. And!! and!! to go to IMATS in Sydney in September!! ^^

I want to say to someone special: that I am still searching for you, whoever you are, wherever you are, I guess I just haven't met you yet. Keyword: YET!

June 2, 2010

Gosh, I just realised I love the blush effect on this poster girl!

Everybody who reads this know or have surely heard the brand NARS, yes? Well, NARS has become quite an icon for years now and I'm actually considered one of the slows to jump on the NARS bandwagon... I've only discovered NARS few months back when I only got into makeup. Ah, once you try to look up "best blush", NARS would come up in the search engine. Right?

They have amazing pigmentation, amazing colours to choose from, and have the most intriguing and catching names in the makeup industry, so I think... (you know which names I'm referring to)

So this is an
International NARS Event with Stephanie Gower. She is NARS' Editorial and Fashion Makeup Artist... and created looks on the runways from New York, Los Angeles to San Francisco (with Valentino and Roberto Cavalli to name a few)...

Bec, one of the head makeup artists of MECCA Cosmetica was my makeup artist for the day =) alongside Stephanie, and I knew her from before this event so that was fun!! fun !! fun!!

1) She prep my skin with NARS NEW Skin Smoothing Facial Prep (AUD$59), it comes in a little black box... CUTE!! Travel friendly too... but they don't come with brush or sponge or anything so you have to dip your fingers or brush into it all the time...
Well, it did feel "velvety" and "smooth" and seemed to fill in pores and fine lines and didn't grab any dry areas. It is targeted to minimise pores and smoothen any dry or rough areas. It did feel like I didn't have anything on, and glides on effortlessly on my skin. I like how it's very very smooth, like velvet. But I think that's about as far as how much I can like it. I had this on at around 3.15pm ish and before 9pm my face was greasy looking, and some areas on my cheeks seem a bit blotchy... so I don't know... not going to jump up and down for it, I thought I would, y'know? I'm big on face base makeup and when NARS came up with this I thought "oh my! a NARS base makeup I can finally use" but now I'm having mixed feelings... if I change my mind, I'll let you know about it.

2) Stephanie applied Sheer Glow in Deauville - with her fingers, really pressing it in all over my face. (This is 3rd shade matched to me... 1st a MA matched me with Punjab, then 2nd was Fiji, now it's Deauville... ==)

3) Stephanie used Yachiyo Brush, dipped it in Laguna Bronzer and did a number 3 around my face.
To be honest, I didn't see any effect of this on me... maybe I have to play around with Laguna more to see...

4) Stephanie used Cream Blush in Penny Lane on the apples of my cheeks - using her fingers, dab dab dab

5) Using Orgasm Multiple, she used it to highlight my cheek bone, my temples, and my brow bones. Using fingers, again! This was the most intriguing part, when she used it on my brow bones... I never thought of using it there but now... I might just do! ;)

6) Bec did my eyebrows, using Bali eyeshadow and a brow gel. I must say, it did look alright and even in daylight in the store. But I still think the colour is too dark to my liking of my eyebrows hahaha... I'm going to leave my eyebrows alone... hahaha

7) For eyes, Stephanie did 1 eye, and Bec did the other.
- Kalahari Duo
- Alhambra Duo
- Mousson (as base)
were used.
And I believe she used Mekong and eyeliner in Kyoto for smokey effect on the outer lines of my eyes.
Then top it off with curling my lashes and Volumizing Mascara from NARS, I was surprised that this mascara holds my curl !! I left it till about midnight and my right eyelashes were still curled =)

8) As for lips, she used Sex Machine Lip Pencil & Turkish Delight Lip Gloss (these are Stephanie's favourite lippies and she was wearing it on the day) I commented on her lips and she was like, "Ooh!! Thanks for noticing!! It's Steph's favourites!! ;) " Hahaha

9) Surprisingly, no concealer was used. Only Loose Setting Powder in Flesh.

Not as detailed as how it was with Hourglass, but it lists almost all products used.

I played a bit with the Limited Edition Multiple Tints, but unfortunately I didn't bring my camera and my iphone did not pick up the colours I swatched, so I'm sorry... no swatch photo to show how sheer and buildable these are. =(

I think Multiple is a great idea but it's not necessary? Yeah sure you can use it on your lips, your cheeks, to highlight anywhere on your body, but for the price, which I'm going to let you in later how much it actually costs in Australia... for it gave me such shock when I ended up at the register counter to pay.

As I decided to snap up a Multiple in Orgasm. I was debating whether to get Penny Lane Cream Blush or Sex Machine Lip Pencil, but I thought, the Multiple would be a 3 in 1 product so... that's why I chose it. I went over to the counter to pay, and ... it costs... AUD$89!!!!!!! I almost fell over, but since I already have AUD$50 store credit, I only had to pay AUD$39, but still!! Ah, I simply told myself, that it's partially a fee to meet and get tips from Stephanie Gower.

Tips gathered: (all products mentioned are from NARS)
1) Loose Powder in Flesh is a really great setting powder, you use sponge to press the powder onto the skin on top of your foundation, and then use brush to brush off the excess
2) You can use Multiple in Orgasm as brow bone highlight!
3) You can use brush to apply mascara on your lower lashes
4) The Sheer Glow is best applied with fingers, dab and pressing it onto the skin to blend
5) Not really a tip... but I'm happy that Deauville is now a better match to me ... rather than Punjab or Barcelona or Fiji ... hehehe & I realise I prefer my eyebrows to be lighter or not too dark or just to leave it alone. Hah!

Now... photo time!!

As usual, without fail, mecca wraps the product ever so nicely and neatly in this black soft tissue paper =)
And it opens to...

And it pops open as follows...
Ta Da!
Oops, not quite ;)
And here's how much product is in it
Hmm... is it worth it... I can't help but still question it.
And a little swatch on my hand... it's sheer and buildable. Remember, it's buildable...
Pretty? Yes, yes it's a pretty colour... but gosh! price is ridiculous!

Now, apart from that, however, I received a free Limited Edition Top Ten Beauty Icons Box, I wasn't expecting this, but ^^v yay for freebies!! You'll see what I mean...
All these FREE! =D

Do you notice the baby Laguna bronzer?
Oh yes yes... it's a baby, it's...
I have to admit,
it is SO CUTE!!!! Hahaha

Here's a comparison of its size:
So cute, won't you agree? ^^
I wasn't expecting this at all!! I thought they were just going to give me those samples in plastic containers or tubes, but no! It's actually a mini version of the real stuff! Yay! Oh it's so cute... hahaha

And lastly... photo with the ladies
Stephanie Gower on the left of the photo
Bec on the right
Lovely ladies!

I can't wait to upload this, so I'll edit this when I get my hand on photos of the eye makeup...
It's basically smokey, brown, with glitters/frosts.

Okay! I'm off to Lush VIP Night tonight! Expect another couple of posts soon!

Have a blushing night~
