Update as of June 2012

I’m sure by now you all might notice I have not been updating as much as I usually would. I am aware of that. I just thought I shan’t linger much longer and tell all of you that I have decided to take a break from blogging for this month of June. This just means that all the drafts, reviews and posts will take a step back. They will be posted later in July and the months after, of course. I have a lot, I can tell you, a lot of ideas of what to write about… the kinds of blog posts I want to write… I already have them all in my mind. However it takes a lot of my time to actually get the photos edited and write them all out, edit them and the lot.

My exams are creeping up real soon. This is getting real serious. The main reason I am taking a hiatus is because of that. Not because I don’t want to write anymore or having writer’s block or neglecting. I can tell you I do have plenty of topics to write. They are always there. I hope you can understand and don’t feel as though, “Oh she’s not updating anymore… boo hoo” Yeah, well, I cannot make blogging my full time job yet, can I? Who knows what may happen in the future? But for now I need to get my act together and focus in finishing this year. It’s really tough for me. I mean it.

I wish you all the best and of course meet ups and events may still be happening and I am happy to join. I just won’t be writing it up until my exams finish – that’s at the end of June.

I’ll still be here. Just like the stars and the sun… just because it sets, doesn’t mean it’s not there.

All the best to those sitting exams and finishing up their assessments. Hold on to your dreams and keep the fire burning. My fire has dimmed before and I am slowly building the fire up again. Time is always against you. Everyone may come and tell you otherwise. In the end, do it for you and for your future.

I know, I know, I’ll stop now… I just ramble ramble and on and on…

Goodnight for now.

Oh Gosh… can’t believe it’s 1st of June tomorrow.

I’ll see you all later. I will be back.

How cute is this little guy!!

Bossy Hair DIY Styling Night and Offer

A week ago, last Tuesday the 15th May marked the first of long overdue gathering of the Brisbane Beauty Bloggers. We were invited to model some easy 5 minutes do at the Bossy Hair Kelvin Grove salon. Cute, friendly salon just at the Kelvin Grove Urban Village near where Woolworths is.

A few of the styles took a little longer than 5 but the majority took less than/or about 5 minutes to do! We all know how crucial hair do is (at some occasions) and how time consuming it can be when we know nothing of what to do! Bossy Hair team were there to the rescue, of course.

Antoinette is the cute lovely lady in the middle here.
While, on the far right we have Belinda, the Manager at Kelvin Grove branch.

Greeted with plenty of champagne (I did not take any, yes I didn’t!), orange juice, tea or coffee and snacks like cheese and crackers, even the delicious olives (yuummm)… we were all in excitement waiting to see what we can learn in terms of quick hair styling tips from the pro’s!

Review in Minute. Estee Lauder Invisible Fluid Foundation

I, as usual, was just passing by the cosmetic counter at David Jones the other day and had a peek at the new Estee Lauder foundation, the Invisible Fluid Makeup.
Fullscreen capture 17052012 122331 PM.bmp
Within seconds the Estee Lauder lady came and asked if I would like to try it out. I thought, okay, why not.
After trying to match me to a CN range (Cool Neutral, pink base) I told her I prefer a yellow base and she was not pushy about it and matched me to one of the WN (Warm Neutral, yellow base) shade. We settled with 1WN2. I came home with a little sample pot.
Fullscreen capture 17052012 122420 PM.bmp
After testing it out at home applying it on my entire face. Here’s what I have to say.
My skin is of an odd creature. It changes its condition from time to time, as you have probably heard me say for numerous times. In winter the skin gets dehydrated and drier, almost uniform throughout my face, except my eyelids and a small section below my cheekbones. This is a nice liquidy foundation, however I think it accentuates the dry patches. You definitely need to be very well moisturised beforehand, or use an Illuminating primer (Estee Lauder has a lovely new one for $48). I find that it gives a slightly luminous semi matte finish, not dewy, no not that dewy. It gives you a diffused flawless finish that is very nice, however… if you look at me closely (very closely) I think you will spot the dry patches peeking “helloo!”. I did not even want to set it with powder… I didn’t need to. It dries to a skin-like smooth finish, not wet.
On the other hand, it is very easy to apply and blends effortlessly. I used a traditional paddle foundation brush and I had no trouble blending it. No streaking happening. It is indeed lightweight and does not feel like you have a cake on your face.
Coverage-wise: On a good skin, this will give you a good coverage. It leans on the light-medium buildable, I’d say.
So overall, it’s a nice foundation for combination/oily/normal skin. Not all skin types. Definitely not for dry or dehydrated. The colour match is pretty good, I’m impressed and pleasantly surprised. 1WN2 matches me quite well this winter. It looks like I’ve got nothing on, just good skin. As time passes by, it seems to blend more into the skin and leaves you a brightening effect, somewhat. I like!

Thinking of a new Estee Lauder foundation? Give this one a try. If you don’t like the heavyduty Double Wear or if the Double Wear Light is too light or you could not find a match, this may as well be the answer.
Have a nice weekend everyone~

Winter Essentials. e01. “Lip Balms”

Thought I let you in some of my current staple winter essentials and let’s start off with something I wear every single day and if I don’t have any, I go “omg, oh no” and end up with bleeding cracked lips… not a good look.

1) Lucas’ Papaw Ointment

Fullscreen capture 16052012 114519 PM.bmp

An oldie but a goodie. I’m sure everybody is familiar with this red tube. It’s almost like a cult. I never heard or knew about it until few years ago, actually and I live in Brisbane (where this is made). It works amazingly in keeping your lips protected. I like to put a thick layer on at night and sleep on it – wake up to “hello smooth lips!” ready for kissy kissy… a’ight I’d leave that to you.

This is not a good base for lipstick, though, as this is quite a thick paste. It also has a tinge of herbal scent – that some people may not be a fond of.

Price has gone up over the years. It now costs ranging from $3+ to 4.99-$5.99 depending on where you get it from and whether it is on sale. Still affordable for the 25g tube you get. Available everywhere – Woolworths, Coles, Priceline, Kmart, Big W, Target, and your local chemists.

2) Maybelline Baby Lips

Fullscreen capture 16052012 114348 PM.bmp

I have 2 – Mango Pie and Menthol. I love the Menthol one – it’s minty and refreshing. It’s one of those twisty chapstick tube, so you don’t need to use your fingers to apply. Easy peasy and very convenient.

This leaves a balmy feel on the lips. Moisturising and not sticky. It is not glossy either. Not too bad of a base for lipstick but I don’t normally wear lipsticks when I wear this just because I just don’t wear lipsticks on daily basis.

Price varies from $3+ to somewhere in the $4ish depending on sale. Available at chemists, Priceline and anywhere that sells Maybelline.

3) Kit Cosmetics Lip Balm SPF15

Fullscreen capture 16052012 114126 PM.bmp

Surprisingly this actually does soften and protects my lips. I feel like it has this extra buttery texture which coats my lips and moisturises it. It contains Kakadu plum, quandong and lemon. It has a buttery texture and a nice semi matte finish. Loving the fact that it contains spf15 means that I be wearing this during day time more often. I keep this in my bag. I also love how you only need a pin size to cover your lips. Totally enjoying applying this on my lips ever since I opened the tube.

$16.95 at Kit Cosmetics for 15ml tube.

4) Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1 SPF4

Fullscreen capture 16052012 114801 PM.bmp

This is like a softer version of the Kit Cosmetics lip balm and more towards petroleum jelly sort of texture but not as greasy as jelly. I don’t like dislike loathe the petroleum jelly feel on my lips but this is surprisingly good. It is smooth and gives my lips a protection without giving me the yucky gel feel of… petroleum. It’s been around for 40 years – omg, wow!

Available at Kiehl’s counter. I believe it’s around $11ish now.

5) Dr Hauschka Lip Balm

Fullscreen capture 16052012 114244 PM.bmp

If you want the ultimate, this is it. I love this and actually almost running out of mine, and saving it for rainy days. It smells freshly of roses but not sickening. Herbal roses, some may like it some may not. It is very hydrating and I love putting this on at night time. It works nicely in the morning under lipsticks too. It contains ingredients such as Castor Oil, Beeswax, Peanut Oil, Carrot Root Extract, Apricot Kernel Oil, Calendula, Sunflower Seed Oil, Cocoa Seed Butter, Wheat Bran Extract, Wheat Germ Oil, Jojoba Seed Oil… now we know why it is so good as a treatment and a must have in my essentials kit.

$19.95 at David Jones.

6) Malin+Goetz Lip Moisturizer

Fullscreen capture 16052012 113900 PM.bmp

This is the only one out of all the above that will give you a gloss finish. This works as highly hydrating lip moisturiser or a lipgloss, really. You can use this on top of your lipstick too. The tube may look so small, but don’t let that fool you (unless you’re chewing through it), you only need a pin size amount. This is like a special occasion must have saviour. Due to its slight stickyness, the lips wearing this may not be well suited for kissing purposes.

$20.00 at Mecca Cosmetica

I personally would repurchase all of the lip balms mentioned above and always have them in my essentials kit using them on rotation depending on condition of my lips.

What are some of your favourite lip balms?

Review: The Jojoba Company Anti-Aging Day Cream SPF 15

The Jojoba Company has tickled my fancy when their motto is “beauty is in our nature” that mainly focuses on the jojoba ingredient. Jojoba itself is rich in antioxidant and vitamin E that leaves your skin feeling nourished and well balanced.

I will first let you in what they have to say about this product and will then let you know what I think.

Benefit Boi-ing Concealer Now in 5 Shades

I went to the store thinking that if I could find a match I might consider it as a new concealer in my stash. Hey, they say it’s an industrial strength concealer it’s bound to be good, right. Sadly I could not get a match. The shades were either too light or too dark. However, perhaps one of the shades may suit you! For those who are in love with Benefit Boi-ing Concealer, they have extended their range of shades!!

Instead of just 2 shades, there are now 5 shades!

Fullscreen capture 14052012 35931 PM.bmp

Now that I think of it… perhaps I could get away with shade 03 as an undereye salmon corrector? I’m a little scared to try… What are your thoughts? Have you tried this concealer?

Sigma Limited Edition Paris Palette

Paris Cover

I don’t normally mention Sigma – if ever at all. This palette, however, caught my eyes. Fact that they were created from some of my favourite youtube beauty gurus just made it even more special. Even if they would never really know me or I to meet them in real life.

TiffanyD, Xteeener, Frmheadtotoe, DulceCandy87, Petrilude, MacNC40 and XSparkage explored the city of romance – Paris – and created this palette consisting of 8 eyeshadows, 2 blush and 1 highlighter shade. It is also equipped by an eye shading brush (E55) and a large angled contour brush (F40).

Wanna see what it looks like?

The Months of April and March Recap

Looking back, it was quite a month. My midsemester exams were just in late April. Soon it’ll be end of semester exams period – SCREAMS!! RAAHH!!

But anyway, speaking of being a blogger that I am, it was the month of Becca Event, release of Hourglass new foundation Immaculate (you know me and my love for Hourglass Cosmetics), Mecca Maxima (Yes!), and the best chicken dish I have ever made. I have my very first pair of crocs shoes (not those clogs, oh gosh no) and best nail polishes colours I have had. Myer Carindale opened up in mid of March (Kiehl’s and MAC are now available there). Marie Claire James St Event was held in March, which really took me by surprise – James St really brings Brisbane up to a whole next new level of class.

And my favourite green scarf… and newfound love for intricate designs and colours. And you’ve been warned (Photos Heavy)

Seven Things About Me That You May or May Not Know (Versatile Blogger Award)

Seven Things:

  1. I love soy milk, soy mocha, soy made food such as tofu, tempeh, kecap manis, etc.
  2. If I were to become a doctor, I either want to be a dermatologist or a paediatrician, more on the latter though I think…
  3. Some of my favourite flowers include Calla Lilies, Kenya Roses (either in multicolour or green or peachy pink or apricot shades) and Peonies
  4. I believe in doing good in life and to be comfortable. You live your own life – not to simply keeping up with other’s perceptions of you and who you should be.
  5. I like varieties in my bathroom – that means a couple of body wash, face cleansers – depends on my mood I use different scent and type. No it does not mean it costs more, as the products last longer than just a few weeks if you’re using solely one product all the time.
  6. We never have cats – always dogs and other pets such as guinea pigs, rabbits, doves, ducks, geese, chicken, turtles, fishes, mice, birds… in the future I will still have a dog (but make sure it does not shed because I want an indoor dog that I can cuddle) and when I was young I used to always want a monkey, a horse and a piglet (perhaps not in the realistic future)
  7. I believe in always bettering oneself and that has made me who I am today and will make me who I will become. Nobody is at their perfection limit.

The lovely Tegan from Tegania’s Thoughts awarded me with Versatile Blogger Award awhile back in her blog – you can check it out HERE.

Thank you Tegan!! ^^

The rule is…

  • Thank the person that nominated you with a link back.
  • Tell 7 things about you.
  • Pass this on to 10 newly discovered blogs and let them know they received the award.

And the 10 bloggie linky links goes to… (some of my regular reading materials hehehe)
