SkinMD Shielding Lotion

Hi everyone,
I'm using uni's computer as we speak... hahaha, my laptop is still not fixed. Anyway, that doesn't stop me from blogging, especially when I am so long overdue to do this review.

I was sent this product sometime in January this year, 2010, and I shall talk more about how I used it and what I used it for and the pros and cons, etc, and such.

So there it is, in all its glory... The red cap bottle.

Specs on bottle:
- 120 ml
- Paraben Free
- Used & Prescribed by Dermatologists
- No animal products or testing
- Dermatologists tested
- Fragrance, Colorant free
- Hypoallergenic

Ingredients:
Purified Water (Aqua), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract (Aloe Vera), Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, Methyl Gluceth-20, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Extracts of Arnica Montana Flower (Arnica), Symphytum Officinale Leaf (Comfrey), Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria Chamomile), Achillea Millefolium (Yarrow), Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, 1,2 Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Butylene Glycol, Aminomethyl Propanol, Phenoxyethanol (preservative).

I initially used it on my face, but found it wasn't quite suitable, my face is not of the dry kind, it's a combination of oily and normal to dry at some areas such as cheeks, but even these dry areas are not as dry as eczema-type of dryness. So, I started using it on my hands and feet. Now, my hands aren't of dry kind either, so I can't say much about how much moisture or how much softer that sort of thing, but I can say that it doesn't leave my hands sticky or greasy. My feet, on the other hand, due to my long hours of standing and walking, the soles tend to be on the dry side. And when I used SkinMD, they instantly didn't feel rough or scaly, they feel smooth and looks smooth, and not sticky or greasy at all! I could wear my sandals or shoes straight away without fearing that I would slip or grease my sandals haha...

So, what it claims:

"Shielding Lotions are a new type of skin care product based on years of research into how skin heals. They form a protective shield with the outer layer of skin and help keep out irritants. They allow the natural oils and moisture to remain in the skin so it can heal better and they're light in texture so they go on without a greasy mess. Your skin needs help to keep out these moisture-robbing irritants.

A fundamental difference between Shielding Lotions and traditional skin care lotions is that Shielding Lotions enhance the skin's own natural protective abilities by turning the outer layer of skin into what could be described as a hydrating invisible shield making them many times more effective than mere protective lotions and moisturizing creams." And what do I think of it?

PROS:
* light texture
* not sticky or tacky or oily
* absorbs fast
* doesn't stink
* travel friendly, handbag friendly
* multi purpose (face, hands, feet, body, everywhere)
* refreshing feeling
* skin feels smooth, soft, supple

CONS:
Ok, the following aren't exactly 'cons', because this is based on my own review based on my skin type.
* isn't quite the right moisturiser for my face, after using it, my face feels soft, but slightly towards the dry side. I think it's just that the effect of it is quite short lived, but I'm guessing over time, if I continue using this, my face would become more of baby skin? I'm not sure, hence, as stated, this is not exactly a 'con', but something I experienced that was not quite exactly positive.
* I saw the price in Singapore, at a local Watsons or Guardians, and just for the bottle it costs almost SGD30, now that is quite on the pricey side. I'm not sure how people respond to this, because it is quite an unknown brand here in Australia or in Singapore, so it is still difficult to sell it, but I'm sure in the near future... with all of us bloggers to test it out, it'll be more known.

End of the road:
Recommendation would be for people with eczema, but needs to be used for a long period of time. Or, those in search of light lotion that feels refreshing and doesn't feel sticky or greasy. However, if you're like me and is not too allergic or too sensitive about body lotion then this product is not a must have. But really, this is good for the soles of my feet. Hehehe... my face on the other hand, being combination-oily-slightly sensitive, yes I can use this but I don't think it's the best for my face.

I hope that clears up any questions or if there's anything you want to ask, just fire away in either comment below or email me.

Till next time!!
