The last night of 2009

Tonight's the last night
of a year that's gone by
too quick it feels as though
I'm not even done with it yet...

But time awaits no one
And you just have to keep going
Tomorrow's a new day, a new year
Best wishes to all and to all a good night!

My YSL Everlong Waterproof

YSL Everlong Waterproof Mascara in Brown
*My first wonderful brown high end mascara*

What it claims (on the website):
Innovation dedicated to seduction. Everlong Mascara is the first mascara that offers a double lengthening effect: instant make up result and long-term lengthening action. This performance is due to the association of a new generation moulded brush with an exclusive complex – the Lash Growth Booster – which favors lash growth.

Let's just have the photos do the talking~

Here's my eye... already curled with my Shiseido eyelash curler.
On the left I'm wearing Everlong, and on the right, no mascara, just curled.
Can you see how my natural eyelashes just point straight down? While the one coated with Everlong stays up and awakens my eye? ^^

Here's another take on my eye...
And here is with Everlong...
This is just the effect of the Brown one, imagine how it would be like with the Black version!! It's in my wishlist now, in my "To get" list. hehehe...

I find that the bristles do not clump on me, and I can easily apply as many coats as I want without any clumping or stickyness. It glides on smoothly and holds my eyelashes curled throughout the day!

Have you tried any YSL mascara? Which one is your favourite?

By the way, for those in Australia, Hope you had a really nice haul from the Boxing Day Sale!!!

Everyday Minerals Flat Top VS Kabuki

EVERYDAY MINERALS

Note: This is not a paid review, whatever I write is based on my own personal experience and my own opinions.
This will be a review on the 2 famous Everyday Minerals brushes: Flat Top & Kabuki (Dome shaped). I have both in the long handle (as opposed to the short stubby ones, even though these aren't even that long, but a really good size to hold)

Pros (of both):
*I didn't experience any shedding in both when I washed it the first time, no funny smell either and no shedding while using it either. No problemo!
*Dense, packed, and super super soft! Feels really soft, I'm not kidding you!
*Handles aren't too short or too long, but just right size to have a firm hold of
*Easy to clean, the colours just come off it.
*Picks up powder easily

Cons:
*Not that I can think of right now!!

Which do I prefer?
Well it depends on what are you using it for.

What about applying the Mineral Foundation?

I'd say Flat Top to apply the Mineral Foundation. Because the flat top picks up the foundation and spread it evenly on the flatness of the hair, and I can easily buff the powder on my face and leaves me with a flawless finish. Beware of dipping in too much foundation, it may look too thick on a part of your face. Flat top tends to give you fuller coverage.

What if I don't want too much coverage?

Then I'd say go for the Kabuki, because it's dome shaped and that gives you less product on a particular area and you can use for lighter coverage for larger area. I use this for the finishing touches or when I use a base (Everyday Minerals Kaolin Powder Sunlight or MAC Transparent Powder). OR!! If in the end the blush comes out too strong, I also use this to blend in the blush more on my face so I don't end up having clown cheeks.

I hope this has helped whoever is new to Everyday Minerals and can't decide which brush to get. I personally have fallen in love with the Flat Top. Debating whether to get another one as a spare.

Have you used Everyday Minerals brushes before? If so, which one is your favourite?
Let me know by commenting ;)

Have a lovely lovely Christmas & I'll try to make another post before New Year!! How time flies, it's almost 2010 already!!!!

2009 Beauty Favourites

Shifa @ Get Gawjus! blog did a 2009 Beauty Favourites, and I thought I'd do one here~ Thanks Shifa for the idea!

Also, this would be interesting, due to the fact that I've only started to get really into makeup just recently, just for the past few months, not even 6 months yet! I'm still a baby in the makeup world! So all of these would be my first favourites and I get to share it with all of you, YAY! I think I might do one for each categories (face, hair, lipbalm, mascara, skincare, yeah, the lot...)

Here they are~ (this will be a long list... )

Lucas' Papaw Ointment
I used to just use Bonnibell lipbalm or Chapsticks or even those Vaseline petroleum jelly, but this, this has made the difference and it lasted me for so long!! I'm not kidding! I've had this tube for more than 6 months and still going. It is multipurpose ointment, goes sort of a thick transparent cream that you can apply on anything from chapped lips to open wounds to dry skins to rashes to anything! I can't imagine running out of this now, have to at least have 1 at hand. So handy I even got my friend (a guy) to use it and he loves it too! =D

Swisspers Cotton Balls
Hahaha I know, but I've never felt cotton balls this soft!! Such softness I use it for my face now, I even prefer using this rather than the cotton pads to use with toner or makeup remover or anything! I have a massive bag of 400 and will definitely get more. Soooo sooofttt!! Love the feel of it. So fluffy and dense and just love it. =P

Lush Fresh Mask in Brazened Honey
If you're not surprised, I am. This was my first Lush mask and my first fresh mask and my first sort of mask in my skincare routine. I must say I'm impressed and I'm also surprised, because I used to not be able to stand the smelly Lush store but now I can't help but to enter everytime I walk pass it! This mask cleanses, unclogs my pores, refreshes and I find the scent quite soothing and refreshing. It leaves my skin smooth and soft and refreshed. So nice to apply especially because you have to keep it refrigerated. ;)

Lush Vanishing Cream Facial Moisturiser
I'm surprised again. This has to be my most expensive facial moisturiser but it was worth it. I'm liking my current condition on my face and it might be due to this moisturiser (among other products I use). I don't find it too oily or too greasy or too drying. It just gives the right balance of moisture and so I need not panic of looking like a disco ball or a sandpaper. ;) It leaves my face feeling soft, smooth and supple and evens out my tone. It also seems to soothe my slightly sensitive skin.

Neutrogena Rapid Clear 2 in 1 Cleanser / Mask
My first time using Neutrogena in, maybe about almost 10 years. I didn't know what to expect when I purchased this but I must say I'm impressed. My face has stayed clear and this is gentle enough to use everyday. What's not to like when this also removes the makeup on my face and thoroughly cleanses my pores and leaves a minty fresh feel that I like. Not drying like the previous Neutrogena products I used years ago. It doubles up as a mask since it has Kaolin in it. Very handy to have and I think I'll be happy to just carry this when I travel.

Sonia Kashuk Hidden Agenda Concealer Palette
I received this in a swap and for someone like me who has never had a HG concealer, this is my HG concealer!! It works wonders for me. It covers my red blotches effortlessly, covers my undereye, covers any blemishes, other concealers have not worked before, and this works! Is it because of the dark olive/green concealer? I think so! This is the only concealer palette with olive green instead of the minty apple green. Oh and for your information, it looks dry on the palette but it's very very creamy and super blendable. It goes on smoothly and just blends so flawlessly on my skin. Love it! Heard it's been discontinued, so I'm trying so hard to get backups now... =(

CoverGirl LashBlast Mascara in Waterproof formula & YSL Everlong Mascara Waterproof
Both hold my manually curled eyelashes (since they're normally dead straight facing down) and it does quite well in the volume and thickening and dramatising my eyelashes. It doesn't smudge throughout the day and my curl stays curled all day and night long!

Gorgeous Cosmetics Liquidlips Lip Gloss in Luscious
A cosmetic brand making a name for itself in the Academy of Makeup and so glad I have an access to the boutique in my city. I love this lip gloss, it's rather sticky but it lasts a long time and leaves my lips looking 'luscious' and healthy. Most other lipglosses tend to just disappear in a minute but this lasts.

Beauty Treats Facial Wipes in Green Tea
This was a cheap find of face wipes, for only AUD$4.99 this is something I purchased over and over again. It's made in Korea but the company is in the US. I've tried other face wipes but I still like to come back to this. Cheap, handy, and smells nice. It's also refreshing!

Sally Hansen Extra Strength Extra Fast Polish Remover with Vitamin E
I accidentally found this at our local Chemist Warehouse and purchased it in its massive bottle (12 oz size) and this has to be the best nail polish remover (npr) I've had. It doesn't stink like the other npr I've had, and it doesn't leave white marks on my nails. It leaves it clean and smelling fresh. I think it also cleanses and moisturises my cuticles. I like this npr, if only I can find it again anywhere.

Everyday Minerals Products
I have to say "products" instead of a specific item because I've been impressed with all their products that I've recently purchased. The flat top brush is a staple now, and their foundation powder gives me flawless and fresh finish that I like, and the blush is so pigmented you need just a tiny bit then you can simply blend and buff it in... easy! Finding the foundation shade/match hasn't been easy, but I think I've narrowed it down to about 4-5 shades that I can wear at the moment. I think I can wear those other lighter ones in Winter. But for now I'm liking Intensive, Original Glo and Semi-Matte. I like Medium Beige Neutral, Medium Beige, Olive Neutral and Golden Medium (sometimes), and waiting on Buttered Tan and Beige Neutral. See how these two match up to my skin this week and I'll update you all on that. But so far, I like EDM!

MAC Paint Pot
I only have this in Bare Study but I love this paint pot range. I want more of it. Hahaha... If only there are paint pots in this Holiday edition I probably would have got some. This is really nice to just an all over colour on the lid, or as a base it works wonders! The eyeshadow lasts all day and night long and no creasing and it just is a beautiful lovely colour on its own! Easy to apply and blendable and I want more of it.

Kose CoenRich Q10 White UV Protector in SPF50+ PA++ Smooth Touch
I wish this comes in bigger tub. I use this almost everyday and in need of a new tube soon. It has really made a difference. My face hasn't tanned too much and I feel that my face is more protected and not easily damaged by the strong sun over here in Australia. I like how my face hasn't tanned too much because I tan way too quickly, I'm not kidding. And this sunscreen has made all the difference. It smells nice, nothing like the other sunscreens, it glides on smoothly on your skin and blendable and just smooth.

Eyeshadows
I'm getting more interested in doing eye makeup and slowly finding favourites. Some being Stila eyeshadows (very pigmented and soft and just so nice to apply), and Sportsgirl loose shimmer pigments (so easy to use and quite pigmented)... waiting for Pure Luxe eyeshadows and maybe I'll try the Coastal Scents 88 Palette, but we'll see what I find along the way with the smaller palettes or singles. :)

Blushes
I find comfort in blushes. They make me look fresh, awake and not washed out or pale or sick. I just like them. I'm loving plummish shade at the moment, but slightly peach bronze would be nice too, or berry shade.

Eyeshadow Brushes & Brushes in general for makeup application
Enough said. I never used to use brushes until few months ago. I still need more eyeshadow brushes. =) I especially like the Angled Eyeliner Brush, as I love doing an inner corner colour... and I also love a fluffy dome shaped eyeshadow brush for an all over lid colour. I like a small dome shape blush brush and I love my Everyday Minerals Flat Top Brush.

OMG!! I know I pretty much listed my entire new collection of makeup, but here is someone who's new to makeup... so all of these are my new finding for this year! So they deserved to be mentioned. =)

What are your beauty favs for this year? Or if you're someone like me, who's only started to get into makeup, what are your current favourites or find? Leave a comment below or do a post and link it up ;)

My Current Skincare Routine

It's only recently that I decided to change over to Lush and Neutrogena skincare and the change to another skincare has never made me happier than the result of my current, new one. It's a blend of Neutrogena and Lush, would you believe it. Hahaha...

Note: What I will be reviewing briefly soon are based on my own experience of use, by no means a paid review.
Oh, and this will be very wordy...

Skin Stats:
*Combination *Normal to oily on T-zone *Redness around nose, and cheeks flush easily *Skin would redden when too much pressure is applied on it, such as rubbing too harshly *Pores on T-zone and cheeks *Blackheads on nose =( *Occasional dryness on cheeks and the bridge between my two eyebrows *Occasional blemishes/pimples/acnes (days when I eat too much peanut butter or too much deep fried food, which I eat very rarely anyway nowadays)

EDIT (02/01/10): My cheeks or nose would get super dry if I use too much 'acne products'... Oh and I can also get pimples if I get exposed to the sun too much with no protection, I've had the experience... I tan really really fast, mind you, and along with the tan, comes the blemishes... Hmm... oh and St Ives Apricot Scrub turned out to be way too harsh for my skin, I ended up with flakey cheeks and dehydrated dry skin (that every makeup artists frowned upon... they did!! they looked at me and said "your skin is dehydrated!" or "what have youuuu been using?" >_<) So it took a well one whole month or so to get it all balanced again I think...

Aaanyway, you get the idea. I used to have a lot of acne problems on my face. I would have those raised whiteheads all over my forehead and they never went away until my mum took me to a dermatologist (this was when I used to live in Singapore). Then I also used to have papules and pustules acnes on my cheeks and chin and yeah, YUCK! So anyway, over the years I always just trusted my mum on getting me whatever skincare she thinks best. Fast forward to only few months ago, I just became really BIG on skincare. I want a clear nice skin so much that it began to dawn on me that I really have to finally find the products. Skincare products routine. So I slowly bought items, one by one.

First I made the decision to give Neutrogena a second chance. I used to use Neutrogena many years ago and stopped for many years. And now that I'm back using it (a different formula, mind you) I really like it. I'm using Neutrogena RapidClear 2 in 1 Cleanser/Mask.

This mask works 2 ways. You can use it as a daily cleanser (which works great for me!) to help prevent breakouts, to remove dirt, excess oil and even makeup!!
Orrrr you can use it as a 5-minute mask to deep cleanse your skin.

Second I bought Lush Vanishing Cream Face Moisturiser. The most expensive face moisturiser I've ever purchased and I'm not regretting it! In fact, I'm going to need a 2nd tub soon. =)

Lush describes it as its "low-fat moisturiser": light, easily absorbed cream with minimal oil content. Helps acne-prone, oily skin and T-zone problems. With rose, lavender and witch hazel.
I was reluctant on purchasing this at first, one was because I'm never a fan of lavender scent, and 'cause I thought it was going to be a sticky, too gooey, too thick of texture that just sits on your face and doesn't do anything sort of moisturiser. But I decided "what the heck, I'd give it a go, I needed a moisturiser urgently" at that time. And I like it. I use it day and night and my face feels balanced (moisturised where it needs to be, and not overly moisturised where it doesn't need to be). Been using it a bit over a month now and loving it. Thought I was going to run out of it quickly, I was wrong too. You only a small swipe for your whole face! And I still have just about half the tub in there. Oh, and guess what? The Vanishing Cream hint of lavender/rose scent is growing on me and I actually quite like it now, I find it soothing.

Third, there was the Fresh Mask. I did a review on Brazened Honey and liked it, and I'm currently trying out Crash Course in Skincare, but I shall tell you more about it when I've used more of it. I've only used it once or twice. I wouldn't say it beat Brazened Honey, but anyway, leave that to another post. I'm still trying out different Lush fresh masks.

Fourth, the toner. Tea Tree Water did not work for me at all! But Eau Roma Water (which contains lavender and rose) is quite soothing and refreshing to my face. So I guess my face likes Lavender even though I don't particularly fancy the scent. But I like these two together, they compliment each other and the light scent of lavender and rose and other notes are growing on me =)

Fifth, I finally took the plunge and bought Dark Angels cleanser, and I love using it! Read my review on it "Not your average cleanser"
I alternate between the Neutrogena and this. Sometimes I use the Neutrogena first then this, the Neutrogena works better at removing makeup residue etc. And Dark Angels would be best in getting rid of my dead skins build up on my cheeks and clearing blackheads and pores on and around my nose. =)

So what I'm using now, are actually simply pictured here~
My face has never felt this good, this soft, this smooth, this refreshed and balanced. Somehow, with Vanishing Cream I need not worry that some areas might be too oily or too dehydrated. It does the balancing for me!

What's your current skincare routine? Any brand or product you swear by? Leave a comment!

Next Travel Destination: Pandora

How often do you watch a movie with blue humans-like aliens towering 10 feet tall over us and live in a world with flying mountains and reptilian-looking pterodactyl with double the eyes, double the wings, double or quadruple the size (called Ikran in Na'vi)? Or a romance between an alien and a human in an alien body? Now, that's Avatar... James Cameron's Avatar movie. Best movie I've seen in a long while. Packed with action, just enough emotions to get you into the mood, and humanity... and fascinating dreamy world that is out of this world!

Enter Jake Sully (Sam Worthington ^^), an ex-marine who reluctantly joins a mission in a world called Pandora where the native species are called the Na'vi (The People), 3 meters tall, iridecent smooth cyan skin, long tail, feline ears, massive yellow eyes that can rotate like an owl... yeah, you get the point. They're aliens... but they're civilized, human-like intelligence, but they live with bows and arrows, and are very ... I stress, very, spiritual. Their entire world is connected through a network that's channeled to the Mother Tree. Amazing!

I don't know what year it is but the scientists have managed to somehow create a Na'vi body that can be connected with the human brain, hence a human can operate the body, just like an "avatar" would be in online characters, except that this is real. The Na'vi are grown in the labs and specifically assigned to 1 particular person/human, as the making of this Na'vi requires the DNA of that person.

When Jake got lost in the woods on his first day encountering the forest, he met a Na'vi girl called Neytiri, (played wonderfully by Zoe Saldana),

who happens to be the daughter of the clan's leader. Although she was ready to kill him at first sight, she ended up saving his life and was assigned to teach him about their way of life and to learn how to speak like the native... or to ride an Ikran (bird!)

Their language is unique and melodic, sometimes it feels as though they're speaking South African or African ... with a hint of German... it's surprisingly quite enchanting... quite beautiful in its own way. The world that they live in, oh my my... if such world exists, I would definitely visit and I would not mind having a Na'vi avatar. =]

So without spoiling too much of the storyline. This is another level of Star Wars or anything I've seen before. I like how there's emotions but it's not too mushy that I get sick of it. A lot of actions and portrayal of how they live are quite beautiful and I'm impressed with how it turns out.

I give it 5 stars!! I want to watch it again or if there's a sequel, I'm so watching it! =D

Enjoy the movie!! Can't wait till more movies to come... but this... I'll always remember this movie. ^^

Not Your Average Cleanser: Lush Dark Angels

The name fascinates me. Have any of you watched the TV series Dark Angels? Hahaha... Well Lush Dark Angels Cleanser (AUD$15.95) is definitely not your typical cleanser - soft, smooth, foamy, frothy, white or off-white creamy cleanser. It's BLACK! Yes, it's charcoal black.
Lush describes it as designed for young people with oily skin, the velvety texture is sprinkled with black sugar and powdered charcoal to gently exfoliate and cleanse away excess oils. The soft black sugar and powdered charcoal would gently exfoliate your skin and removes dead layers... while an ingredient called Rhassoul Mud (originated from Morocco) acts as the natural detoxifying agent with acne-banishing properties.

Fact about Rhassoul Mud
Rhassoul Mud is known to be effective in keeping the skin smooth, clean and fresh due to its higher concentrations of trace elements like magnesium, iron, sodium, silica, potassium and calcium. The higher concentrations of these elements help in replenishing the minerals we might lack which may cause dryness. Rhassoul Mud has drying properties which acts as cleanser that can draw out impurities and toxins, which then helps in getting rid of excess oils and sebum, dirt and dead skin cells and results in more supple and smooth skin.

Back to Dark Angels, it also contains Avocado Oil to soften and moisturise the skin, and Sandalwood Oil, and Rosewood Oil to soothe.

Now what made me buy it?
Interesting looking cleanser which I seriously was considering to use to battle blackheads and deep cleanse my pores and to remove impurities and dead skin cells build up on the surface of my face especially around the cheeks areas. I also read a lot of reviews mentioning how good this cleanser is at removing blackheads and I've always dreamt of having clear, blackheads-free skin, so I thought I'd give this a go.

I've been using this for about a week and a half I think, almost twice a day everyday, I mix it with my Neutrogena Rapid Clear 2 in 1 Cleanser/Mask (contains Kaolin). I must say, I enjoy using this black cleanser. At first you think it might scratch your skin and leaves it with red blotches, as I would get if I were to use St Ives Apricot Scrub or any other harsh exfoliating scrubs. But No! I didn't get any redness after using this! Amazing! Even after I scrubbed pretty hard around particular areas, it is still gentle enough without causing my skin to react (my skin can get pretty sensitive when rubbed too harshly).

After Wash, Result is: My skin feels smooth and refreshed and no dead skins and deep cleansed and hydrated and really, it feels "soft" like that fairy floss you get in festivals. Hehehe...
It doesn't strip all the oils and leave your skin overdried, it somehow knows how much oils to strip and which areas to deep cleanse. I think I have a crush on Lush Dark Angels Cleanser now. I can even use it everyday and not feel dehydrated or having problems with dead skin cells build up. I used to have that problem with other exfoliating cleansers, but have no fear with Dark Angels Cleanser!

A little note on using this special cleanser. Squish a bit from the tub, about a small 5 cent or 10 cent size and sort of drip few drops of water over it and gently squeeze or mush the powdery charcoal, which then should end up as some sort of black paste. Which then you can apply on your face. I like to start on my nose (where most of my blackheads are) and spread to my cheeks (my pores area), and then my forehead and cheeks and chin... then scrub gently. scrub scrub scrub... now I like to leave it on for a bit as though a mask (maybe only around 5-10 minutes depending on how long it takes for me to scrub my entire body in the shower) and then wash it off. It won't harden like the other Lush masks do, but I just feel that if I let it sit on my face for a bit longer it would do its magic in deep cleansing my face. Hehehe...
Afterwards, I either use my hand to wash it with water, or I use my facial cleansing sponge to wipe it off. Then rinse with water. Towel dry your face. And TIP: USE TONER to remove any excess paste on especially hairlines, chin, neck, ear line, creases on nose anywhere!
And then get ready to MOISTURISE!! At the moment I'm using Lush Vanishing Cream Face Moisturiser, and I'm liking the result. My face is left feeling soft, fresh, clean, and smooth to touch. I think I will repurchase, however as it is my first ever Lush cleanser, I am still curious as how the other Lush cleansers would perform. So I might try different ones and if they don't amaze me, I'll come back to this for sure.

Cleansing your face should be fun with Lush Dark Angels!! ;)

Have you tried any Lush Cleanser? What do you think of it?

Pieces of Me in December 2009

Was going to post this few days earlier, thought I left it till Sunday, then I didn't have time on Sunday... ah!! So here it is... sorry Shirley, it's few days late! Here we go...

So this month...

I like: the fact that when I go home after a long day of work or any other bad days, Rama (our new little puppy) is there to greet me with those sweet puppy eyes and a smile and a hug and it makes it all so much better...
I'm also liking Everyday Minerals foundation.

I don't like: watching horror or scary movies and walking home alone in the dark. Oh, and I hate it when my contact lenses go blurry or irritate my eyes and I'm left almost-blind for the day cause I don't have a spare pair of contact lenses. >_<

I want you to know: that I always strive to be better even in times that I seem not to care

I've planned: to save up for Sydney trip next month... and to slowly find my HG products. =]

I want to say to someone special: (sorta) that you suffocate me and I wish you'd understand... that you need to let me go sooner or later.

Thanks to the Toothfairy who started this game~
